Making highlights

Card highlighted with a white pencil

Supplies:
Dark brown cardstock
Cream colored cardstock
Light brown cardstock
Shiny gold card stock
Dye inkpad (black)
Dye inkpad (Adirondack Espresso or similar)
Pigment inkpad (Versamark or similar)
Stipple brush
Gold embossing powder
Heat tool
Scissors
Paper cutter
Tape
Pop dots or dimensional tape
MSRS Mosaic Frame stamp
MSRS Mini Heart stamp

Steps:
Using a paper cutter, cut the dark brown cardstock to make a 5 ½” x 4 ¼” folded card and a 2 ¾” x 2 ¾” frame piece.
From the cream colored cardstock, cut a liner to fit inside the card. Cut it a bit smaller than the dimensions of the card so that it will fit neatly. Also, cut a 3” x 3” frame piece.
Ink the frame stamp in black dye ink and press it onto the light brown cardstock making sure to press the corners well.
Using scissors cut away the upper left “L shaped piece and the lower right “L” shaped piece. (These two pieces will form the small square frame as shown). Save the remaining left-overs for another project.
Ink the small heart stamp with Versamark and stamp onto the shiny gold cardstock. Heat to emboss and cut the heart out with scissors.
Using tape, join the two “L” shapes together on the reverse side to make a square frame. Mount the frame onto the 2 ¾” x 2 ¾” dark brown frame.
Using the stipple brush, darken the lower right side of the frame piece.
Using a sharp white pencil, highlight the lines of the design.
NOTE: when highlighting, think of the light source that is shining onto your object. In this case, the light is coming from the upper left corner so all the highlights will be on the left sides of each line. Remember when highlighting lines; put the pencil mark on only one side. This will give the line a three dimensional appearance.
Attach the colored and highlighted frame to the cream colored piece and attach to the card. Add the liner to the inside and the cut out heart to the center of the frame with some dimensional tape. Enjoy!

Special

My daughter Amanda is special in every way. During the school year, she is a teacher of children with special needs. During the summer, she is my full time partner, preparing materials for my classes and processing every one of my stamp orders. This frees up time for me to design new stamps and projects. I really love spending time with her. The same things make us laugh and make us crazy and our days together are a special joy. Yesterday, she was in a car accident. Thankfully she just got bruises from her seat belt and scratches from broken glass. Her little car is a little accordion now. If you have someone special in your life, tell them how much they mean to you tomorrow.

Asian Card Winners

Here are the winners of the Asian Theme card challenge at EnjoyMichaelStrongStamps Yahoo Group.. They are, from top to bottom, Hetty Sanders, Leo Thompson & Kathie McGuire.

Hetty- The Netherlands
Our energetic leader has created a stunning beauty. Not only is it beautiful, but it’s innovative too. Hetty has created quite a stir with her recycled Tyvek envelope technique! The fans that decorate the outside of her exuberant card are beautiful and environmentally sensitive. In the open position, her balanced composition creates a pleasing sense of serenity. Well done Hetty!

Leo-United Kingdom
I loved Leo’s card from the moment I saw it. She has created a fascinating composition that instantly transported me away. I imagine we are inside a Japanese palace gazing out over an expanse of water to Mt. Fuji. We are looking through a finely wrought metal grill hand crafted by master artisans! Silk curtains separate the panels of the window and there are golden treasures partially hidden behind them. Well done Leo!

Kathie-USA
Once again, Kathie has produced a card that is also a superb art piece. She has used the triple fold form to display an array of Asian elements that are diverse yet harmonious, a difficult feat to achieve. Look carefully at the large fan. Have you noticed that it opens and closes? It’s that extra attention to detail that propels Kathie’s work into another dimension. Well done Kathie!
